Online Therapy Sessions with Google Helpouts!

Hello!

I am very excited to share with you this great new service! Goolge has created called Google Helpouts in which they provide the back end services in order for you to connect with experts from all fields and get "helpouts" over video chat.

The service is new but there are already many providers giving cooking classes, math tutoring, music lessons, and of course, ONLINE THERAPY sessions! I have recently signed up as a provider and I can tell you I am impressed with what Google is doing.

First of all, Google utilizes a third part background check company to verify that I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor before they allow me to become a provider.  This is great so that all new clients can have the confidence to know that they are making an appointment with a professional in this field.

Second, the EASE OF USE IS AMAZING! if you have a webcam you can have a session on your computer, but the best thing is that there is a "Helpout" app for Android and iOS which means you could have a session directly from your phone (as long as you have a mobile data/WIFI connection).  This is great for a person that wants to have a session outside because they do not want their significant other to hear the confidential conversation.

Third, Google has a money back guarantee for service to make sure that you feel confident about making an appointment.  This is a new medium and therefore anyone could see the hesitation in trying something new.  If you are reading this then I think you can agree that the internet/video chat is the future, and the same way online stores like amazon became bigger than your traditional "brick and mortar" store, having services like counseling/therapy online will allow me as a clinician to reach potential clients that I could never have reached due to physical location of my where I provide services, and I think allow for therapists to no longer need to have a "brick and mortar" location.  Not to mention that without the overhead of office space, I can make my services also more affordable than ever before! I hope you take some time to check out the Google Hangouts listing by clicking here. For the next couple of weeks, while I help promote and grow this service I have made my Helpout Listing free of charge! I hope to see you soon!

The Teenage Brain: Still Under Construction

The following article explains to parents the age old question "Why do teens seem to make such bad decisions at times?"

Turns out, that the adolescent brain is different from the adult brain in that the frontal lobe- the pat of the brain responsible for considering consequences, assessing probability and weighing choices- has less myelin than the adult brain.  Less myelin means that adolescents access this part of the brain less than adults.  When parents attempt to teach them life lessons, those talks become background noise when comparing it to "fun" adrenaline inducing activities.
